Why should I enter?
- The winning entry will be published as a feature article in the 2022 digital Steiner-Waldorf Education catalogue and on the Floris Books blog.
- The winning writer will get a feedback session with a Floris Books editor
- They’ll also receive a selection of books of their choosing published by Floris to the value of £50.
What should I write about?
We invite you to submit a 3000-word piece of non-fiction writing in English on any of the following areas:
- Any aspect of Steiner-Waldorf education (including topics such as equality, inclusion and diversity, representation, teaching and teacher culture, curriculum, community, Steiner-Waldorf education around the world, the history or philosophy of Steiner-Waldorf education, the future of Steiner-Waldorf education)
- Any aspect of Steiner-Waldorf-inspired home schooling, for any development stage (early years and kindergartens, lower or upper school)
- Any aspect of anthroposophic parenting or child development
What form should my writing take?
Your entry could be:
- A step-by-step guide
- A critical essay
- A magazine-style article
- An introduction for parents
- A discursive opinion piece
- A diary piece, or selection of observations
Your writing could be for teachers (in either Steiner-Waldorf or mainstream schools), parents, pupils or policy makers.
How do I enter?

Top tips for entrants
- Write about what you know. Writing about a topic you’re interested in will help your writing sound natural and authentic and will lend it impact.
- Think about who you are writing for. Remember that the reader might either know all about Steiner-Waldorf education or they might be a parent who has never heard of it before. Make sure you have decided on a specific audience and that the language is clear and appropriate for them. What will interest them and keep them engaged?
- If there’s an area of Steiner-Waldorf education that you feel is overlooked or is developing quickly then we definitely want to hear from you. We are always keen to publish something new and fresh, and to join emerging debates.

- Closing date for entries: 31st January 2022.
- Winner will be announced: June 2022.
Terms and conditions
All entrants must read and agree to the following Terms and Conditions of entry.
- The Waldorf Education Writing Competition is open to anyone (except employees of Floris Books and their close relatives).
- Entrants must be over 18 years old.
- Entries must adhere to the competition Guidelines (published separately and available on our website).
- Entries must be original, previously unpublished works written in English that do not infringe any existing copyright.
- No entrant may submit more than one entry per year.
- One winner will be awarded the prize, consisting of:
- Publication in the 2022 digital Steiner Waldorf Education catalogue and on the Floris Books blog
- A feedback/mentorship session with a Floris Books editor
- A parcel of books (of their choosing) published by Floris Books to the value of £50.
- Entries must be submitted using the online Google application form.
- The closing date for entries is 15th January 2022. No entries received after the closing date will be accepted.
- Floris Books will not be responsible for entries that do not reach us for any reason, including, but not limited to, technical or communications failure.
- The winner will be announced in June 2022 on the Floris Books website.
- The decision of the judging panel will be final.
- Floris Books will not enter into any communication or disputes with third parties in relation to the competition and reserves the right to disqualify any entrant.
- Floris Books has first refusal on all publishing rights of all submitted entries.
- Floris Books can edit the winning entry prior to publication in collaboration with the winner.
- Agreements entered into between Floris Books and the winner will be construed in accordance with the law of Scotland.
- Floris Books reserves the right to change the terms and conditions.
- By submitting an entry, entrants agree to abide by the terms and conditions stated above.
